By Heart – Flying High

“You’re asked to recite a poem (or song lyrics) from memory — what’s the first one that comes to mind? Does it have a special meaning, or is there another reason it has stayed, intact, in your mind?”

FLYING HIGH

Lost inside my Father’s love, it’s always safe and warm.

The comfort of just being there,

Heals every pain, restores me again,

Gives me the strength that I need.

Flying high, soaring on the breezes of His love,

Like an eagle, far above the clouds,

We’ll ride the storm, conquer all,

Be strong, bring glory to our God.

Your way is clear, it’s in my heart, a silken touch that leads me.

The Voice of peace, Your words for me,

Helps me to grow, causes me to know,

That my life is still in Your Hands.

Flying high, soaring on the breezes of His love,

Like an eagle, far above the clouds,

We’ll ride the storm, conquer all,

Be strong, bring glory to our God.

What a mystery, of love divine,

What a joy, I can’t explain, Oh but I know,

He will show it to you and your life will never be the same.

Then you’ll be

Flying high, soaring on the breezes of His love,

Like an eagle, far above the clouds,

We’ll ride the storm, conquer all,

Be strong, bring glory to our God.

This song just came out naturally as it has been a life song of encouragement and strength through the years. The trigger was in 1991 when I went to trek up a mountain called Gunung Tahan, the highest point of peninsular Malaysia and there were 12 of us amateurs who struggled to complete it with one guide who later confessed that when he first saw us, he thought none of us would make it to the summit. He even confessed that when the slower half of the group went off the trail near the summit, he was with the other half of the group that reached the campsite and he hid in his tent and cried as he thought the other half were lost.

Well, we all made it and completed the trek taking longer than other groups and we forgave our guide. This song was our theme song and it was a miracle that we made it up and back as a group. At that time, the route was still not well charted and it required us to cross 27 ridges and several rivers (like rapids) and a total of 8 days. Now, you only need 3 to 4 days to reach the summit and there are several route options are available.

gunung-tahan

This song will still surface and remind me of how God has faithfully seen me through trials and difficulties in life. We can continue to trust Him in facing the mountains of our daily lives. May this song be a blessing to you too 🙂
