Howl at the Moon

“Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” — Allen Ginsberg
Do you follow Ginsberg’s advice — in your writing and/or in your everyday life?

In May this year, I visited Mount Mayon, an active volcano in Legazpi, Philippines (as shown in photo above). It required a short trek to reach the base but about 30 minutes ride on an ATV (all terrain vehicle) before that (as shown below).

Yes, you heard it right, an active volcano…. what were we thinking?! Well, it was a must see destination, a tourist hot spot, a must do activity, etc. Well, the inner moonlight worked this in the itinerary and nothing was going to stop us from having fun in an otherwise, rather sleepy province.

On September 16, Mayon decided to spew lava causing thousands to flee (check out the bbc news here). Although it was a couple of months ago that we were there, it brings the shivers down my spine to hear about Mayon ‘Howling at the Moon’ and made me wonder what madness it would be if we were there when it happened.
